Why move to Pittsburgh?

If you are thinking of relocating to Pittsburgh, or you are forced to move here because of your employment situation, you will find that Pittsburgh has much to offer. In fact, your decision has been confirmed as a wise one – Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine has called Pittsburgh one of the smartest places to live in America. As if you needed more confirmation, Places Rated Almanac called Pittsburgh America’s Most Livable City in 2007. But those aren’t Pittsburgh’s only honors. Pittsburgh has shed its image as the soot filled city of the Steel Age and Forbes has now found Pittsburgh one of the world’s top 10 Cleanest Cities.

If you like the outdoors, you will enjoy the 13,000 acres of parks in Allegheny County and 38 miles of shoreline around Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers. Spend some time on the water rowing through the Three Rivers Rowing Association or kayaking through Venture Outdoors. Go fishing at the site of the 2005 Bassmaster Classic. Travel the 37 mile long Three Rivers Heritage Trail System running along the Allegheny, Mononghahela and Ohio Rivers, or venture farther from home on the 300 mile bicycle and hiking trail between Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. known as the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. Bike magazine called Pittsburgh one of the Top 5 places to live and ride in the US. For those that want green space without the sweat of athletic activity, you will find that Pittsburgh has more trees per square mile than any major city in the US.

If you are looking for great sports teams and passionate fans, look no further than the home of the terrible towel. Pittsburgh is currently home to the world champion Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Don’t like sports? Maybe art and leisure is more your style. American Style named Pittsburgh the Best Arts Destination in the Country among Mid-sized Cities in 2007. In 2008, Frommer’s selected Pittsburgh one of the top 13 travel destinations.

Looking for more excitement than art? Theme Parks Magazine voted Kennywood the second best amusement park in the country in 2006.

Looking to find (or keep) love? Forbes ranked Pittsburgh among the ten best cities for couples. Sperling’s BestPlaces found Pittsburgh the best place in the country for baby boomers to find love and keep it.
