Ben Avon

Ben Avon and Ben Avon Heights are mostly residential communities with a total population of approximately 2,500 about 10 minutes west of Downtown Pittsburgh accessible via Ohio River Boulevard or Camp Horne Road.

History

Incorporated in 1892, Ben Avon was initially a small residential community offering a retreat from life in the city. In the early 1900s, the introduction of a railroad station made commuting into Pittsburgh from Ben Avon feasible. Later, the construction of Ohio River Boulevard would replace the train station and bring Pittsburgh only a short drive from Ben Avon. Now, the large historic homes of Ben Avon offer tree-lined streets and large yards to professionals working in nearby communities.
